Winning Team Name Revealed

Today the formerly known Highline Bears summer collegiate baseball team announced the winning team name from their “Rename The Team” voting that started on October 13th and ran through November 15th. The two names and logos fans could vote for were the DubSea Seal Slingers and the DubSea Fish Sticks. The winning team name revealed was the Dub Sea Fish Sticks who won by less than 1%, with a total vote percentage of 50.04%. The team received over 5,000 votes during the competition, including votes from every state in the US and seven different countries.

After being confused with local high schools, little leagues and Highline College the team decided to rebrand. In June the team announced they would be renaming the team and ran a “Name the Team” contest for 2 weeks. After receiving over 200 entries, they flew in the baseball branding company Brandiose. The branding company has helped name dozens of teams in minor league baseball over the past twenty years, including the Rocket City Trash Pandas and Armadillo Sod Poodles.

The Team chose the location identifier “Dub Sea” which is an endearing term for both West Seattle and White Center. It has been used by other businesses in the area throughout the years. Dub being slang for “W” in both West Seattle and White Center, and Sea being short for “Seattle” or “C” in White Center.

“It’s been an intense and exciting process coming up with two different brand names, and then letting the fans decide. We’ve had houses divided across the country about which team name is best. It’s exciting to know we’re going to have the best and craziest name out of all the sports teams in the Pacific Northwest.” General Manager Justin Moser explained. “The amount of response we have received both locally and nationally has been incredible. We’re excited to show our community how much fun we can have at games with this new name and identity.”

The team plays its games during the months of June, July, and the first part of August at Mel Olson Stadium located inside of King County’s Steve Cox Memorial Park. “We’re not in the baseball business, we’re in the circus business where there happens to be a college baseball game center stage. This will be the place everyone will want to spend Friday and Saturday nights during the summer. It’ll be unlike any baseball game you’ve ever been to.”

The Fish Sticks will host between 25-30 games next summer at their ballpark, with regular theme nights, promotions, and a variety of other off field entertainment nightly. They will have a 40 man roster comprised of college players from around the country. Players from out of town stay with host families, much like they do in other summer wood bat leagues such as the famous Cape Cod league. Tickets to games are affordable ranging between $8-$12 per person.
